Luna Interactive Stress Ball

My latest project is now close to completion. Luna is an interactive stress ball that produces generative motion visuals. It is designed for a childs treatment room at Central Manchester University Hospital’s Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC). The work was comissioned by Lime Art.
The aim of the product is to engage the child in a calming and relaxing way whilst undergoing a medical examination.
I will be showing a short film of the work at my MA show at MMU in the Holden Gallery this Thursday. I will post the film here and on the usual platforms on Thursday morning.

Not Young Enough

I have neglected my blog for a while because I have been so busy with my current project which is also linked to my MA. The MA finishes in two weeks time so I am just finishing up with the final stages of the project.
I will be putting up all the information about this project in the next week or so. Its called Luna and is an interactive light work controlled by a stress ball. Check back soon for updates.

Her Secret Is Patience

Janet Echelman. - This project makes visible to the human eye the patterns of desert winds. During the day, sunlight projects patterned shadow drawings onto the ground and pedestrians on their daily paths. At night, the colored illumination gradually changes color through the seasons. The large three-dimensional multi-layered form is created by a combination of hand and machine knotting of recyclable high-tenacity colored polyester that is replaced in new color variations at intervals. See more of Echelmans work here.

Art Kane: Jim Morrison

Kane photographed Morrison in the closet of his room at L.A.'s Chateau Marmont hotel. He had an electrician move the television in to the closet, and asked Morrison to kneel behind it and change channels, capturing many different broadcasts and Morrison's moods and reactions. Finally choosing the blond starlet as his principle image, other interesting frames include Morrison with President Johnson, The Newlywed Game, and the 'The End' logo of a paramount picture. As Kane later remembered: "A light went on in my hotel closet when I opened the door. It produced a weird shadow. It was a lifeless chamber. I noticed the TV and instinctively moved it into the closet. I had visions of Jim Morrison kneeling behind it with the tube suggesting an x-ray image of his nerve center - his thoughts."

Generative tree drawings

In contrast to my coded generative images, here is an example of some analogue - low-tech generative art done by a tree with the help of the wind.
